SBBWUP Swabi Campus
The New Campus of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University, Peshawar has been opened at Swabi, to cater for the needs of female folk of district Swabi, adjoining and other areas. To achieve the objective, project has been designed in order to provide required physical and academic infrastructure with an aim to develop socio-economy of the district in particular and province in general.
University education is more than the next level in the learning process; it is a critical component of human development worldwide. It provides not only high-level skills necessary for every labour market but also training essential for teachers, doctors, nurses, civil servants, engineers, humanists, entrepreneurs, scientists, social scientists, and a myriad of other personnel. It is these qualified and trained individuals who develop capacity and analytical skills that drive local economies, support civil society, teach children, lead effective governments, and make important decisions which affect entire societies.
Out of 135 universities at the national level only 7 are female (out of which only 1 is in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), most of them recently established. The total male enrollment in the universities is 0.586 million (67%), whereas, the female enrollment is 0.521 million (33%). It is worth mentioning that the only women university in the province has around 5000 students. At the moment only 36+ female students are studying in Swabi University main campus enrolled since 2009. Females from districts where cultural barriers have made it difficult for females to get admission in higher education institutions will be attracted towards the campus. Due to limited capacity to accommodate students Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar almost 70% of female students fail to get admission, which is why they have been trying to open campuses in remote places including Swabi.
