PRESS RELEASE: Visit of French Ambassador to Pakistan at SBBWUP
07-Sep-2017The French Ambassador to Pakistan, Mrs. Martine Dorance visited the Main Campus of the University. Her Excellence was accompanied by Mr. Oliver Huynh Van, Cooperation Attaché and Mr. Adrai. On her arrival, she was welcomed by the students and staff of the University. Her Excellence was briefed about the achievements and success of the university since its inception which was appreciated by her at the Eleanor Roosevelt Corner (ERCP). Moreover, she visited the campus and lauded the efforts made by the Vice Chancellor and her team in establishing a secure and fully loaded campus for the female students of the University. She was also enlightened about the future plans for the betterment of the University environment.
On the occasion, Prof. Dr. Razia Sultana, Vice Chancellor, SBBWUP, addressed the audience and said that "it was a long awaited desired of our university to welcome your Excellence. As your goodself is a strong supporter of female higher education and women empowerment, it makes you very close to us because SBBWUP symbolizes higher education in Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa and its not only the higher education, we are striving that women should follow the career path. It shouldn't be the way that a girl after acquiring the Degree sit home, but she should have a clear path and she must contribute to the betterment of the society and play her role for the betterment of the economy". She added that "we are focusing on providing more and more opportunities to the students by initiating and expanding more disciplines to choose from and to provide on-campus facilities to the students. Since we are relatively young university but we are striving hard that in a span of 2 – 4 years we will be in a position to offer subjects like Pharmacy and Nursing etc and alongside we will raise our level of quality education to an extent, which will be a benchmark for other universities too".
She further added, "Keeping in view the culture of KP where female higher education is not much encouraged especially in co-education institutions, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar is providing a service to the community. It is a platform for awareness and opportunity for females of KP".
In the end, Dr. Sultana wised for a formal collaboration between the University and French Government so that programs like Student Semester Exchange, Faculty Development Program and Graduate Employment and Post Doctorate opportunities may be initiated.
Mrs. Martine Dorance, in her address acknowledged the role of SBBWU in contribution for the betterment of females of KP. She said, "I'm delighted to visit this university. It holds a very special place in promoting awareness and opportunities for females of this province. I know how you work and the impact of the services of SBBWUP, in Peshawar city and Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa at large and it was my own utmost desire to visit this university and know about the efforts being made. I'll talk to your government officials and my own government officials to see how we can collaborate in terms of higher education and other opportunities in different fields especially in Higher Education and your country is not developed if you leave skills and talent behind and Women are equally important part of society and even in France, it is the responsibility of Us (Women) to educate their children regardless of the fact we contribute to the economy".
She further added: ‘Mr. Oliver Huynh Van, Cooperation Attaché will be visiting the university more often to see which program we can mutually decide together but we are working quiet closely with Higher Education Commission, Islamabad and we receive students every year from Pakistan and we are expecting more and more students from Pakistan because we are focused on training the future elite o your country and we have already talked to the Chairman HEC, Islamabad that we need more females and I can see the work done in different universities and being a Women University SBBWIUP is doing the incredible job".
She enlightened the audience that: "In my 1st year of deployment in Pakistan, SBBWUP celebrated the Women Day after which I invited student delegation from the University and all the lady diplomats, lady politicians and other higher dignitaries were so impressed by the polish of students and their courage to speak infront of the audience and the thoughts shared by them were very positive. We wish to continue and strengthen our relation with Pakistan and your University".
In the end a tree was planted by Mrs. Martine Dorance.
