VICE CHANCELLOR'S MESSAGE
Assalam u Alaikum and Warm Greetings
With profound gratitude and humility, I Prof Dr. Anila Anwar, take up the charge of Vice Chancellor at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar, where we remain committed to our founding vision of empowering women through quality education, academic excellence, research, and innovation. As we move forward, we will build on this strong foundation with a renewed approach that emphasises institutional growth, academic advancement, effective governance, and meaningful opportunities for our students.
The institution's mandate rests on a simple premise: when women gain access to rigorous, solution-oriented learning, they become agents of change in their families, communities, and professions. Accordingly, the university's curriculum and research agenda are designed to move women beyond rote learning toward the critical thinking, technical competence, and entrepreneurial confidence needed to take on leadership roles in both the public and private sectors. Campus life matters just as much: inclusive learning spaces can strengthen women’s sense of belonging and encourage them to continue their studies. Supportive mentoring relationships, flexible academic structures, and accessible counselling services further reduce the social and logistical barriers that often lead women to interrupt or abandon higher education. Research-oriented programmes also give these students direct exposure to the problems facing their own province, from public health and water management to small-business development, so that their academic work translates into practical solutions rather than remaining confined to the classroom. Such an approach also prepares graduates to engage with international research networks and industry partners, enabling them to contribute to global knowledge while remaining rooted in the local context they seek to improve. Achieving this balance requires sustained institutional investment in faculty development, laboratory and library resources, and partnerships that give students meaningful exposure to professional environments before they graduate. Such exposure also helps graduates develop the professional networks and practical confidence that are often decisive when they move from study into employment or self-employment. Beyond individual skill-building, the university also seeks to strengthen the institutional pathways that connect women to the labour market, including career counselling, incubation support for women-led ventures, and alumni networks that sustain mentorship long after graduation. Such a network also gives students a sense of continuity with the university, allowing them to share their experience with the next generation of women entering the fields they have pioneered.
My vision is to foster an environment where education extends beyond classrooms, nurturing critical thinking, creativity, leadership, and professional competence. We aim to strengthen our academic programs, promote research and industry collaboration, enhance student support services, and create pathways that prepare our graduates to meet the challenges of an evolving world. We are equally committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where every student has the opportunity to discover her potential and pursue her aspirations. Through innovation, collaboration, and a shared sense of responsibility, we will continue to advance the university’s role in women’s empowerment and the socio-economic development of our region.
