Scottish Scholarships to be resumed for the students

The University will get in touch with different UK universities through Pak UK gateway for research and other exchange programs

 

Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University, Peshawar organized one day panel discussion on role of women in Higher Education-the way forward.

Speakers from British Council, Dr. Nishat Riaz, Director Education, British Council and Mr. Amir Ramzan, Country Director, British Council to take part in the discussion session and discus the potential initiatives that can be executed. The Vice Chancellor of university with HOD’s of all departments and administrative staff members participated in the discussion and contributed their ideas.

Dr Nishat Riaz, in her discussion said that she enlightened about the limitations and barriers faced by women in general and they are discussed on every forum but this particular discussion is to find solutions to the existing barriers and make strategies to materialize ideas and initiatives in for the betterment of society especially in the field of higher education. She said women are creative and can bring about many ideas. The participants, in their respective field of education shared research oriented ideas and proposed solutions.

In her address, the Vice Chancellor stated the SBBWUP is an ideal example of ‘Women Empowerment’ and this is also mission statement of the university. 90% of the staff in the university is comprised of females and all of them are excelling in their domains apart from their domestic responsibilities yet they don’t miss a day to bring about new and creative ideas. They are progressive and the management has high level of expectations from them which they never fail to meet.  They are inspiration for the students. She added that over time the female youth of KP has drastically inclined towards higher education which is an achievement.  Most of the students desiring to pursue higher education belong to unprivileged backgrounds and for them different scholarships are being offered. The Scottish scholarship was granted to university till 2018 and we wish if it may be resumed so that more students may be benefited.  She also said that the university is offering different entrepreneurial forums for the students and with so many efforts, the federal government launched the pilot project of ‘Kamiyab Jawan’ only to SBBWUP in KP under which up till now more than 2500 students have received trainings and the cycle is continued.

Mr. Amir Ramazan, Country D,irector British Council declared that a memorandum of Understanding will be signed between British Council and the university. The Scottish scholarship will be resumed whereas under the Pak-UK gateway, the university will be provided opportunities to create linkages with different universities in UK for research collaborations and exchange programs.
