MONSOON TREE PLANTATION CAMPAIGN 2022

 

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Following the Plantation Drive Campaign started in March 2022, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar in collaboration with Peshawar Forest Division, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in the stated connection, organized the tree plantation campaign at the varsity campus. A total of 600 plants including Hibiscus, Sukh chain, Moringa, Terminalia, Kachnar, Sanatha, Duranta , Legestrum and Bottle brush were donated by the Forest Department to the university.

Prof. Dr. Safia Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, SBBWUP initiated the campaign by planting the tree followed by Mr Gulzar ur Rehman, Conservator Southern Circle, Forest Department and Mr. Tariq Khadam, Divisional Forest. The students from all the departments were exclusively called in to take part in the campaign in which 50 plants were planted by the studenta on the spot.

On the occasion, Prof. Dr. Safia Ahmed, VC while addressing the audience stated that plants and environment are have a very intense effect on us and plantation campaigns must be encouraged as they have a very positive impact on the health of living beings and having more and more greenery ultimately improves quality of life especially when presently climate change and global warming have become a threat throughout the globe.  She further said that use of plastic bags must be prohibited to save the environment an in addition to plantation campaigns, awareness campaigns must also be initiated regarding all the hazardous elements that are destroying our environment. Also she stated that the students must be encouraged to actively participate in such drives and also as the future leaders must play their role in creating awareness in their surroundings.

Mr. Gulzar stated that the campaign in KP was initiated under the billion tree project in which uptil now 1 billion, 20 cror and 80,000 plants have been planted in 5 years which has increased 6% off the forest covered area in KP and 1% nationwide. He stated that we all need to join hands together to take immediate actions to ensure provision of better environment to the students.

A short video regarding all the plantation drives since last 3 years was also shown to the audience by the university in which many of the initiatives taken by the university to boost greenery were reflected.   The students presented speeches on importance of plantations and the guests received organic vegetable baskets exclusively grown by the university.
